OPPO Find N7 Wide tipped to feature 6,500mAh battery, Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 SoC

Highlights
  • OPPO Find N7 Wide is tipped to feature a 6,500mAh battery and the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 chipset.
  • The phone will launch in Q1 2027.
  • The foldable is expected to come with a 5.5-inch cover display, 7.6-inch inner screen, and an upgraded hinge to reduce the display crease.

The next wave of foldables appears to be moving in a new direction, and “wide” could be the defining trend. Samsung is set to unveil the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide on July 22nd, while Apple’s first foldable iPhone is expected to arrive in September with a shorter, wider design. Now, a new leak suggests OPPO is preparing to join the shift with the Find N7 Wide, which could pair a compact form factor with one of the largest batteries seen in a book-style foldable.

According to tipster Digital Chat Station, the OPPO Find N7 Wide is currently being tested with a 6,500mAh battery, Qualcomm’s next-generation flagship chipset and a redesigned camera layout. The foldable is tipped to launch in the first quarter of 2027.

Key expected specifications

Digital Chat Station claims the Find N7 Wide will be powered by Qualcomm’s upcoming Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 (SM8950) processor. The leak also mentions an on-device AI accelerator, although no further details have been shared.

The biggest talking point is the battery. Foldables have traditionally sacrificed battery capacity to achieve thinner designs, but manufacturers now appear to be breaking that trend. The Vivo X Fold 6 already pushed the category forward with a 7,000mAh battery, and OPPO’s rumoured 6,500mAh cell suggests battery life is becoming a key area of competition alongside thinness.

If true, the Find N7 Wide would comfortably outrun the rumoured 4,800mAh battery on Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide and the roughly 5,000mAh battery expected on Apple’s first foldable iPhone. The industry appears to be moving beyond simply making foldables slimmer, with brands now trying to deliver all-day battery life without compromising portability. This has been made possible with the advent of Si-C tech.

Redesigned form factor and display

Previous leaks suggest the Find N7 Wide will feature a 5.5-inch cover display alongside a 7.6-inch inner display. The wider outer screen aligns with a broader industry shift towards foldables that behave more like regular smartphones when closed, rather than the tall, narrow designs that have defined the category for years.

Samsung is expected to formally enter this segment with the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide later this month, while Apple’s first foldable is also rumoured to adopt a wider aspect ratio. OPPO’s focus on a shorter, wider footprint shows that brands are seeing usability as the next battleground for foldables, alongside battery life and durability.

The leak also claims OPPO is developing an upgraded hinge to reduce the visibility of the display crease. Samsung Display and BOE are reportedly supplying panels, underscoring the industry’s ongoing investment in improving foldable display quality.

Radical camera layout overhaul

Digital Chat Station further claims OPPO is testing two different rear camera designs internally. One prototype reportedly retains the company’s signature circular camera module, while another adopts a horizontal camera layout similar to designs rumoured for Apple’s first foldable.

While these details remain unconfirmed, they suggest OPPO is exploring multiple ways to differentiate its next foldable in what is becoming an increasingly competitive segment. Buyers looking to upgrade this year may be better off waiting until the next generation of foldables arrives, especially if wider cover displays and larger batteries are high on their priority list. On the other hand, owners of recent premium foldables may find little reason to upgrade unless these changes translate into a noticeably better everyday experience rather than incremental refinements.
