OPPO could be looking to make its latest Reno series phone easier to buy without changing its core hardware. The company is tipped to introduce a lower-storage version of the Reno 16 in India, which would give buyers another option below the phone’s existing configurations. The move comes as OPPO continues to expand its Reno and F-series portfolios in the country.
OPPO Reno 16 new version tipped
Tipster Sanju Choudhary claims OPPO is preparing an 8GB + 128GB version of the Reno 16 5G, with a price of around Rs 60,000 to Rs 62,000. The existing phone starts at Rs 66,999 for 8GB + 256GB and goes up to Rs 72,999 for the 12GB + 256GB version.
The OPPO Reno 16 uses a 6.32-inch 1.5K AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and up to 1,800 nits peak brightness. It’s powered by the Snapdragon 7 Gen 4, paired with LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 3.1 storage. The camera setup includes three 50MP rear cameras – a primary sensor with OIS, a 50MP ultrawide and a 50MP telephoto camera offering 3.5x optical zoom and OIS. The front camera is also a 50MP sensor. Both front and rear cameras can record at up to 4K 60fps. A 6,700mAh battery with 80W SUPERVOOC charging powers the phone, while IP69K certification provides dust and water resistance. The Reno 16 runs ColorOS 16 based on Android.
The tipster also says OPPO is preparing its F35 series for launch, although there is no confirmed launch date or specification information for those phones yet.
Should you buy the OPPO Reno 16?
The proposed 8GB + 128GB model would give the Reno 16 a lower entry point, but its value will depend on the final price. At around Rs 60,000, there is competition from OPPO’s own Reno 15 Pro Mini. Launched in India in January, it starts at Rs 59,999 for 12GB + 256GB and costs Rs 64,999 for 12GB + 512GB, so there’s a clear price advantage. It has the same 6.32-inch 120Hz AMOLED display, a more powerful Dimensity 8450 chipset, 200MP main camera, 50MP selfie camera and 6,200mAh battery with 80W charging. Both phones run ColorOS 16.
The Reno 16 brings a newer platform, a larger battery and a more evenly distributed 50MP camera setup, while the Reno 15 Pro Mini offers more RAM and storage at similar pricing, a more capable chipset, a compact form factor and a better resolution camera. Buyers interested in the Reno 16 should therefore compare the final price as 128GB is rather insufficient storage relative to the asking price.
