Realme is set to expand its number series in India with the launch of the Realme 16 5G on April 2nd. After teasing the phone, Realme has now revealed the launch date. The device, which was earlier introduced in select global markets in January, now makes its way to India with a unique selfie mirror feature. The smartphone also has a compact form factor and a lightweight design. It would be an affordable option to the Realme 16 Pro series.
Realme’s number series has traditionally targeted users looking for a balance between performance and value, and the Realme 16 5G continues that approach. However, what stands out this time is the 7,000mAh battery, something that has already become a trend across brands. The smartphone will be capable of pulling through two days of usage, at least. It’s paired with 60W fast charging support, which is decent for quick top-ups.
For users who rely heavily on their devices for streaming, gaming, or hotspot usage, this could be one of the key reasons to consider the device.
In terms of design, the Realme 16 5G introduces a horizontally aligned rear camera module that houses a 50MP sensor alongside a circular LED flash. The more unusual addition, however, is a small reflective surface, marketed as a “selfie mirror”, which allows users to frame shots using the rear camera. This practical twist could appeal to social media users who prefer higher-quality rear camera selfies. The smartphone will launch in Air Black and Air White colours with a clean, minimal aesthetic.
Under the hood, the Realme 16 5G is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 6400 Turbo chipset, paired with up to 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, based on its global variant. This setup should be sufficient for daily tasks, casual gaming, and multitasking. Realme is also emphasising thermal management, equipping the phone with a vapour chamber cooling system featuring a large heat dissipation area. Combined with an IP69 rating for dust and water resistance, the device appears designed for reliability as much as performance.
The phone will ship with Android 16-based Realme UI 7.0 out of the box, along with a promise of three OS upgrades and four years of security updates. Although not the longest software support, the device should remain relevant for a reasonable period.
Realme’s emphasis on a 7,000mAh battery and unique design elements like the selfie mirror could help it stand out. The overall package also suggests that the phone is about delivering dependable performance, long battery life, and practical features for everyday users. If a compact and stylish design with reliable battery life is your priority, then the Realme 16 could be a good pick for you. This phone makes for a solid upgrade if you’re coming from an older device. However, if you already have a capable smartphone, it might be worth holding off for something more substantial.
