Xiaomi could soon expand its budget 5G smartphone portfolio with the Redmi 17C 5G. The phone has now appeared on Geekbench, offering a look at its processor, memory configuration and software. Interestingly, the listing also suggests the phone could share its hardware with the Redmi 15C 5G.
The Redmi 15C 5G debuted in India in December 2025, and if the latest leaks are accurate, its successor may focus more on software updates than major hardware changes. The Redmi 17C 5G is expected to launch in India and other global markets, although Xiaomi hasn’t officially confirmed the device.
According to a Geekbench listing spotted by tipster Kacper Skrzypek, the Redmi 17C 5G carries the codename “Tornado”, which is the same codename previously associated with the Redmi 15C 5G and POCO C85 5G. This suggests the upcoming phone may be a rebadged version rather than an entirely new model.
The benchmark listing reveals single-core and multi-core scores of 729 and 1,692, respectively, on Geekbench 6.7.1. It also points to an octa-core chipset with two performance cores clocked at 2.40GHz and six efficiency cores at 2.00GHz, matching MediaTek’s Dimensity 6300 processor. The tested variant includes 4GB of RAM and is listed with Android 16, likely running Xiaomi’s HyperOS skin.
Previous reports indicate the Redmi 17C 5G could feature a 6.9-inch HD LCD display, a 50MP primary rear camera paired with a depth sensor, and an 8MP front camera. It’s also tipped to pack a 6,000mAh battery with support for 33W fast charging.
The Redmi 17C 5G appears to be positioned differently from the Redmi 17C 4G, which launched in China in June this year. The 4G model features a MediaTek Helio G81-Ultra processor, a 6.88-inch 120Hz HD+ LCD display, a 13MP rear camera, a 5MP selfie camera, and a 5,160mAh battery with 18W charging.
By comparison, the leaked Redmi 17C 5G is expected to offer a faster Dimensity 6300 chipset, a larger 6,000mAh battery, quicker 33W charging and a higher-resolution 50MP primary camera. These upgrades would make it a more compelling option for users looking for affordable 5G connectivity without moving into the mid-range segment.
The Redmi 17C 5G is expected to launch in India and other global markets in the coming months, though its China debut remains uncertain. Pricing has not been revealed, but if Xiaomi follows its existing strategy, the phone is likely to be positioned close to the Redmi 15C 5G, which launched in India at Rs 12,499 for the 4GB + 128GB variant.
The early leaks suggest the Redmi 17C 5G could be worth considering if you’re looking for a budget 5G phone with a large battery and the latest version of Android. However, if the hardware ends up being largely unchanged from the Redmi 15C 5G, existing users may find little reason to upgrade.
