Samsung Galaxy M17 5G launched in India, with a focuse on durability and cameras
Samsung has introduced a new M-series smartphone in India, called the Galaxy M17. The handset comes across as a successor to the Galaxy M16 smartphone, which recently sold out during Amazon’s Great Indian Festival Sale 2025. The OEM claims the Galaxy M17 is aimed at young, on-the-go users. The smartphone features an ultralight design complemented by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus protection, offering added durability against minor drops and scratches.
The Galaxy M17 also features IP54-rated dust and splash resistance, though this is somewhat underwhelming for its price point. Many rivals in the sub- Rs 15,000 segment now offer IP64 or IP65 protection, making them slightly more resilient. Even so, Samsung compensates with a triple rear camera setup – a rarity in this category. The phone sports a 50MP primary sensor with OIS for sharper, blur-free photos and videos, accompanied by a 5MP ultra-wide lens and a 2MP macro shooter, providing you with more options for shooting.

For selfies and video calling, the Galaxy M17 relies on a 13MP snapper in a dated U-shape notch atop the 6.7-inch Super AMOLED display, which now has an upgraded 1,100 nits of peak brightness. The FHD+ resolution, 90Hz refresh rate, and 387 ppi remain the same as its predecessor, Galaxy M16. This is a standard panel in the price range, with a few options providing up to 120Hz refresh rate, but that increased peak brightness will certainly improve the legibility of the content outdoors.
After a brief experiment with MediaTek chipsets in the previous generation, Samsung has returned to its in-house Exynos platform for the Galaxy M17 5G. Powering the device is the Exynos 1330 SoC, a familiar chipset previously seen in the Galaxy M14 and Galaxy A14 from 2023. While not the newest processor on the block, its performance in 2025 remains to be seen. We’ll explore its real-world usability and benchmark results in our full review, so stay tuned for that.
Software-wise, the Samsung Galaxy M17 5G boots OneUI 7 layered atop Android 15. This may not be the latest software from Samsung, but for the first time in an M1x-series smartphone, it is offering native AI features out of the box. These include Google’s Circle to Search and Gemii Live, to search what’s on the screen and bring real-time visual conversations. The handset also offers segment-first On-device Voice mail feature to leave a message when the call goes unanswered. Moreover, the smartphone provides segment-leading six years of major OS and security updates.
Powering the Galaxy M17 5G is a 5,000mAh battery with support for 25W fast charging. While this capacity may seem modest compared to rivals that now offer 7,000mAh cells with newer silicon–carbon technology, Samsung’s focus here seems to be on portability and design finesse. The handset measures just 7.5mm thick and weighs 192 grams, making it notably sleek and lightweight to easily carry around and hold for prolonged usage.
The Samsung Galaxy M17 comes in three RAM and storage configurations, with the base 4GB RAM and 128GB storage option priced at Rs 12,499. The 6GB RAM + 128GB storage variant costs Rs 13,999, whereas the top-end 8GB RAM and 128GB variant can be yours at Rs 15,499.
