Samsung has confirmed that the Galaxy M17e 5G will launch in India on March 17th, expanding its budget to mid-range Galaxy M series lineup. The device appears to be an additional variant in the series rather than a replacement for the existing Galaxy M17 5G.
The Galaxy M17e 5G will be offered in two colours – Vibe Violet and Blitz Blue – and will be available through Amazon, Samsung’s online store and offline retail channels after launch.

The phone features a 6.7-inch HD+ display with a 120Hz refresh rate. It also supports adaptive brightness and a high brightness mode that adjusts visibility depending on the lighting conditions around the user. The device measures 8.2 mm in thickness and uses a glass fibre reinforced polymer back panel. It also carries an IP54 rating for basic dust and splash resistance.

Powering the device is the MediaTek Dimensity 6300 processor paired with a Mali-G57 GPU. The chipset includes two Cortex-A76 performance cores clocked at 2.4GHz and six Cortex-A55 efficiency cores running at 2.0GHz. The processor is already used in several affordable 5G smartphones available in India, including the recently launched Galaxy F70e, POCO C85 and Redmi 15C.

The device runs on One UI 8 based on Android 16. Samsung says it plans to provide six generations of Android OS upgrades and six years of security updates. Longer software support has always been one of Samsung’s key strengths in the mid-range segment, where competing devices often receive fewer updates.

For photography, the Galaxy M17e 5G includes a 50MP primary rear camera along with a 2MP depth sensor for portrait shots. On the front, the handset carries an 8MP camera for selfies and video calls. Battery capacity is one of the device’s main highlights. The Galaxy M17e 5G packs a 6,000mAh battery, which is larger than the 5,000mAh battery found on the standard Galaxy M17.

The Galaxy M17 5G launched in India in October 2025 starting at Rs 12,499 for the 4GB + 128GB variant. It featured an Exynos 1330 processor, a 6.7-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED display with a 90Hz refresh rate, and a triple rear camera setup led by a 50MP sensor with optical image stabilisation. Compared with that model, the Galaxy M17e offers a larger battery and a faster refresh rate, but moves to an HD+ display and uses a different processor.

The announcement of the new M17e also shows a new naming approach Samsung has been experimenting with this year. The company recently introduced the Galaxy F70e in its budget Galaxy F-series in the form of the Galaxy F70e. The ‘e’ suffix is being used for alternate versions of existing models with slightly different specifications, seemingly allowing Samsung to place multiple devices within the same series at different price points.

The Galaxy M17e will enter India’s budget 5G segment where brands such as Redmi, Realme and POCO compete on performance and endurance. Buyers comparing options in this segment might like to weigh battery life, display quality and software support when deciding between the Galaxy M17e and rival devices once pricing is announced.
