Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 leak hints at two-tier strategy for the flagship chip with a Pro variant

Highlights

Qualcomm’s next flagship chip cycle may not follow the usual one-size-fits-all approach. Instead of a single top-end processor, the company is expected to split things into two: Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 and Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro. Fresh details from tipster Digital Chat Station (via) give an idea of how the standard version is shaping up, and where the Pro model could pull ahead.

The standard Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6, identified as SM8950, is expected to be built on TSMC’s 2nm process. It’s said to use a new 2+3+3 CPU layout with 16MB of L2 cache. On the graphics side, leaks point to an Adreno 845 GPU, along with 12MB GMEM and 6MB system-level cache. Support for LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 5.0 storage is also expected.
