Sony’s next flagship earbuds, the Sony WF-1000XM6, have leaked again, and now there isn’t much left to guess. Between retail listings, early product images, and tipster posts, we now know what Sony is lining up for their flagship earbuds, from sound upgrades to design changes and pricing. Sony hasn’t said anything officially yet, but the steady leaks suggest a launch may not be far away, possibly even later this month.
One of the bigger upgrades is support for DSEE Ultimate, Sony’s newer audio upscaling technology, revealed by INSIDERSONY on X. This will be handled by a new MediaTek MT2855 chip and is meant to improve compressed audio in real time, while also doing a better job with CD-quality tracks by restoring detail and dynamics. If that sounds familiar, it’s because the current Sony WF-1000XM5 already use DSEE Extreme. The difference here is that Ultimate is positioned as a more advanced version, at least on paper.
Noise cancellation is also expected to see some improvement though leaks point more towards fine-tuning than a complete overhaul. Images suggest multiple external microphones on each earbud, which could help with both noise cancellation and call clarity. There are also mentions of small gains in battery life and processing performance, keeping the XM6 competitive in the premium segment rather than pushing it into entirely new territory.
The design changes are easier to spot. Retail images via a now-deleted Power Buy listing spotted by The Walkman Blog show Sony moving away from the glossy finish of the XM5 to a matte look, both on the earbuds and the charging case. The case itself looks more compact and pill-shaped, with cleaner lines and a flat base. Black and Silver colour options have surfaced, and earlier leaks have also mentioned a Sandpink variant. Foam ear tips are still part of the package, but with changes to their internal structure that could affect fit or isolation. Core features like ANC, ambient sound mode, and an IPX4 water resistance rating remain intact.
Pricing has also leaked. A Thai retailer has listed the WF-1000XM6 at THB 11,990 (around Rs 34,700). Other leaks suggest pricing around EUR 299.99 in Europe and USD 329.99 in the US, pointing to a noticeable increase over the XM5 in some regions.
If you already own the WF-1000XM5, this doesn’t look like an automatic upgrade based on what we know. The XM5 already sit among the best in the true wireless space for sound quality and noise cancellation. The jump will only make sense if the new sound processing and ANC deliver real-world improvements. For new buyers, it may be worth waiting for the official launch and reviews, especially as Sony’s flagship earbuds continue to edge closer to higher pricing.
