Vivo has announced the launch of its next-generation operating system, OriginOS 6, in India and worldwide, touted as its most cutting-edge platform yet. Celebrating Vivo’s 30th anniversary, the software is developed with three key pillars: smoothness, design, and AI, to redefine user experiences with their devices. The new OS replaces Funtouch OS 6 everywhere, including India, which was the main Android skin for Vivo and iQOO outside of China. The brand’s aim seems to be to streamline development, enhance consistency, and better compete with other global Android OEMs like Samsung or Xiaomi.
For users, the enhancements revolve around speed, responsiveness, and personalisation. The new Origin Smooth Engine boasts faster application launching (up to 16 percent faster opening 50 apps sequentially) and more stable frame rates, and touch response is said to be 41 percent faster. Features such as Memory Fusion and Dual Rendering ensure that apps and games are played without compromising performance. Touch response has been accelerated by 41 percent, so every swipe and tap feels quick.
Personalisation receives more room with a revamped home screen grid, resizable widgets, and adaptive folders. More straightforward colours are employed along with new icons, and a completely new font named Vivo Sans2 that supports over 40 languages. Dynamic Glow and Translucent Colour effects create depth and make the screen appear more alive. The Home Screen and Lock Screen are more customisable now, allowing users to place widgets in their positions, resize them, or add a photo. Flip Cards animate your photos with motion as you lean the phone.
OriginOS 6 employs AI to simplify day-to-day tasks. Image software like AI Retouch allows you to erase objects, beautify photos, or enlarge images with one click. Personal productivity also improves with new capabilities like Smart Call Assistant and DocMaster. For searching, the OS is closely integrated with Google Gemini and Circle to Search for faster and more intelligent suggestions.
The update brings Origin Island, a new on-screen shelf displaying live updates and recommendations even as you change apps. With one-touch actions such as Copy & Go or Drag & Go, it’s simple to transfer information from app to app. Office Kit and One-Tap Transfer enable you to work seamlessly across devices.
OriginOS 6 preserves battery life with enhanced charging and cooling technology. It is also more secure, with enhanced privacy capabilities and more data remaining on your phone. Vivo says that these improvements make phones last for years without slowing down.
OriginOS 6 is following an overall industry trend of OSes being marketed as AI-first experiences, rather than merely software skins. Initiatives such as productivity tools (DocMaster, Smart Call Assistant) and cross-device capabilities (Office Kit, One-Tap Transfer) echo similar developments from competitors with a focus on ecosystem play.
For potential buyers, the rollout will kick off in November 2025 in phases. Prospective buyers of vivo’s flagship series, beginning with the X300 Pro, will initially experience OriginOS 6. Although several new features sound promising, actual performance will be key to the reception of OriginOS 6 across the world.

Why you should wait for OriginOS 6
The shift to OriginOS 6 is significant for Vivo and iQOO users alike, promising a smoother, more visually elegant, and smarter user experience compared to Funtouch OS. Most nagging issues, such as occasional slowdowns, busy animations, or outdated UI elements, will hopefully become a thing of the past as the AI-powered optimisation of the new system takes effect. The highlight is that the software will spread to more than just the flagships of the two companies, such as last year’s Vivo V30 series, and iQOO Z9s models, meaning even older users get to experience the change. With the X300 series spearheading the portfolio, OriginOS 6 could be the start of an integrated global experience for Vivo users.
If you’re an existing Vivo or iQOO user, upgrading to OriginOS 6 is worth considering if your device is eligible. It promises to be smoother and more intuitive compared to FuntouchOS 6. Buyers who were holding out on buying a Vivo phone due to FuntouchOS might be more inclined to change their minds now that OriginOS is rolling out in India. Vivo phones are known for delivering solid hardware, especially in the camera segment. With OriginOS 6, Vivo and iQOO phones may offer a more complete package than before.
