Vivo’s long-dormant S-series smartphones could finally be making a comeback in India, as we’d reported earlier. The upcoming Vivo S2 has now been spotted by us on the BIS certification website, marking the first official sign that the company is preparing to launch the device in the country.
The certification comes shortly after our exclusive which revealed that Vivo was planning to revive the S-series nearly seven years after its last India launch. The lineup was last represented by the Vivo S1 in 2019, a budget smartphone priced below Rs 20,000. This time, however, Vivo appears to have much bigger ambitions for the series.
The BIS listing, carrying the model number V2576, doesn’t reveal any specifications, but it indicates that a launch is drawing closer. Industry sources had previously told us that Vivo is targeting a July launch window for the Vivo S2 in India, and the latest certification aligns with that timeline. The smartphone with the same model number was also reportedly spotted in the GSMA database earlier, suggesting Vivo had already begun regulatory approvals.
According to previous information shared by industry sources, the Vivo S2 could be priced between Rs 45,000 and Rs 50,000 in India. If accurate, it would represent a major shift from the original Vivo S1 and place the device in the sub-flagship range, just a segment below Vivo’s popular V-series lineup. At this price point, the Vivo S2 would compete against devices such as the OnePlus 15R, iQOO 15R and even Vivo’s own V70. The V70 already offers a compact premium design and Zeiss-backed cameras, which means Vivo will need a clear differentiator for the S2.
For buyers, the Vivo S2 could be worth waiting for if photography and design rank higher on the priority list as the company is known to concentrate on both. However, exact specifications remain unknown and it wouldn’t be long before we get to know those, either through more certifications or Vivo itself. Those looking for flagship-grade processors or gaming-focused hardware may want to wait for the official announcement before making a purchase decision.
