Vivo’s forthcoming mid-range lineup, the V70 series, has begun taking form, and leaks suggest a new strategy this time from the brand. According to a recent tip from Paras Guglani on X, the Vivo V70 lineup will include four smartphones this time but with new monikers. Vivo reportedly might ditch the Pro and Pro+ options as seen previously. Instead, two new FE and Elite models could be included in the V series for the first time.
As per the tipster, the lineup would look like this: the Vivo V70, V70 Elite 5G, V70 FE 5G, and V70 Lite 5G. All these models could be launching in global markets, but India might only get the standard V70 and V70 FE. For context, the preceding V60 series included a Lite model too, but only the V60 and V60e came to India.
The FE and Elite bit is interesting because these monikers haven’t appeared in the V-series before. In fact, we’ve seen an FE version in the flagship X-series last year, where there was an X200 FE. Bringing the FE tag to the V-series hints at a more diversified strategy, potentially offering a value-focused model with selective premium features, much like Samsung’s FE editions, which bridge the gap between mid-range and flagship. The inclusion of an FE variant in a mid-range lineup is interesting because it could help Vivo create a clearer price-performance ladder. Meanwhile, we speculate the Elite could refer to the presence of a Snapdragon Elite chipset on the phone, but since this is the sub-flagship line, it could be a previous gen SoC.
There isn’t much concrete news on the V70 lineup itself, but a device with the V2538 model number recently showed up on the BIS certification site. It could most likely be the V70 Indian variant, indicating that it’s about to launch soon. A Geekbench listing of the same phone shows some initial specifications. The phone seems to be equipped with an octa-core processor, with an 2.80GHz prime core, 2.40GHz performance cores, and 1.84GHz efficiency cores, and an Adreno 722 GPU. These specifications match with that of the Snapdragon 7 Gen 4, Qualcomm’s latest offering for mid-range smartphones. Going by these reports, we can expect a performance upgrade from the V70 might over the V60 series.
The Vivo V70 might be a rebadged version of the Vivo S50, which is launching in China on December 15th. Vivo has launched its China-exclusive S-series under the V-series branding globally, adjusting features for regional markets. Users can expect a design-centric phone with emphasis on display and camera performance, which is trademark of the Vivo’s V-series phones.
Pricing still remains a mystery, but conventionally the highest-end model of the series has been around Rs 50,000. Adding an FE version suggests Vivo is watching market trends closely as mid-range buyers look for ‘lite’ experiences without the premium pricing. If the Indian launch sticks to just the V70 (and possibly the V70 FE), Vivo will position the phones against upcoming devices powered by Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 and MediaTek’s Dimensity 8000 family, namely OPPO’s Reno series.
