Xiaomi 17T launching in India with MediaTek Dimensity 8500 Ultra chipset
Xiaomi is set to expand its flagship lineup in India with the launch of the Xiaomi 17T in the country on June 4th. The phone is set to debut globally alongside the Xiaomi 17T Pro on May 28th, but the company has confirmed only the standard model is coming to India. In the run up to the launch day, Xiaomi has revealed a few of the specifications of the 17T including its chipset, camera and a few of the camera details.

Xiaomi has confirmed the Xiaomi 17T will be powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 8500 Ultra chipset, which is the same processor that was found on the POCO X8 Pro. In fact, the chipset is also found on the Redmi Turbo 5, which is expected to make its debut in India in June. The Dimensity 8500 Ultra is a 4nm octa-core chipset designed to deliver sustained gaming performance at a sub-flagship price point.

In addition to the chipset, the company has confirmed the Xiaomi 17T will be powered by 6,500mAh battery that supports 67W charging. That’s the bare minimum users expect these days and the battery combined with a relatively efficient Dimensity 8500 Ultra chip could make the Xiaomi 17T appealing for users who prioritise gaming, travel, long screen-on time, or heavy camera usage through the day.
For display, Xiaomi has revealed the phone will ship with TUV Rheinland certifications for low blue light, flicker-free viewing, and circadian-friendly usage. Xiaomi has additionally confirmed a hole-punch display design for the selfie camera.
The company has also revealed that the Xiaomi 17T will feature a Leica-tuned triple rear camera setup. Notably, Xiaomi is bringing a telephoto camera to the device with support for up to 5x optical zoom and up to 10x “optical quality” zoom. As usual, the Leica cameras are being heavily promoted by Xiaomi and will remain one of the USPs of the device.
Meanwhile, the higher-end Xiaomi 17T Pro is confirmed to use the flagship MediaTek Dimensity 9500 chipset built on a 3nm process, alongside a larger 7,000mAh battery. However, this phone is only launching in select global markets and is not expected to launch in India.
While the POCO X8 Pro with the same chipset is priced at Rs 34,999 in India, the Xiaomi 17T is tipped to be start at Rs 59,999 in the country. The Leica-tuned camera setup with telephoto zoom, the larger 6,500mAh silicon-carbon battery, premium display certifications, and potentially better thermals and build could help justify the premium over the POCO X8 Pro. But for buyers focused mainly on gaming or benchmark numbers, the POCO may end up looking like the more rational value pick if real-world performance remains similar.
