Xiaomi 17T, 17T Pro launch tipped for May 28th globally; Xiaomi 17 Max may come to India too

Tipster Yogesh Brar claims that the Xiaomi 17T and Xiaomi 17T Pro are set to launch globally on May 28th. He also added that discussions are currently underway to bring the rumoured Xiaomi 17 Max to global markets, including India. If that happens, it would mark a significant return for Xiaomi’s T-series lineup in India.

Xiaomi has officially launched only three T-series phones in the country so far — the Mi 10T, Mi 10T Pro, and Xiaomi 11T Pro. After that, the company skipped Indian launches for the global 12T, 13T, and 14T series altogether as Xiaomi reshaped its regional strategy. That’s why the Xiaomi 17T is more notable as it could signal Xiaomi trying to rebuild its presence in the premium space in India again, particularly at a time when brands like OnePlus, Vivo, and OPPO have become far more aggressive in the Rs 50,000-plus category.

Xiaomi 17T expected specifications

Leaks suggest the Xiaomi 17T and 17T Pro will retain Xiaomi’s newer flat-display design language with slim bezels and fairly compact proportions. According to leaked renders, the standard 17T may use a plastic frame, while the Pro variant could move to a more premium metal build.

The Xiaomi 17T is expected to feature:

• 6.59-inch 1.5K AMOLED display with 120Hz refresh rate
• MediaTek Dimensity 8500 Ultra chipset
• 6,500mAh battery with 67W charging
• Leica-backed triple 50MP primary + 50MP telephoto + 12MP ultrawide camera setup

The Pro model is tipped to push things further with a larger 6.83-inch AMOLED display, 144Hz refresh rate, MediaTek Dimensity 9500 chipset, faster 100W charging, and a larger battery.

Meanwhile, the Xiaomi 17 Max appears to be Xiaomi’s attempt at building a more battery-focused flagship. Xiaomi has already started teasing the device officially in China, with executive Lu Weibing describing it as a “fully upgraded” version of the regular Xiaomi 17. The leaked specifications are ambitious:

• 6.9-inch 1.5K LTPO flat display
• Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset
• 8,000mAh battery
• 100W wired and 50W wireless charging
• 200MP Samsung ISOCELL HP-series primary camera
• 50MP ultrawide and 50MP periscope telephoto cameras

If accurate, the 8,000mAh battery could make the phone stand out in a flagship segment where most brands still stay well below that mark.

Expected pricing

Pricing leaks suggest the Xiaomi 17T series could sit firmly in premium territory globally. The Xiaomi 17T is tipped to start at EUR 749 (around Rs 84,000), while the Pro model could reportedly go up to EUR 999 (around Rs 1.12 lakh).

Tipster Sanju Choudhary has claimed the India pricing may be slightly lower, with the Xiaomi 17T expected to start at Rs 74,999 for the 12GB + 256GB variant. That would place the series against devices like the OnePlus 15, OPPO Find X9, Vivo X300 FE, Realme GT 8 Pro and Vivo X300 depending on Xiaomi’s final pricing strategy. The Xiaomi 17, for context, starts at Rs 89,999 in India.

On paper, the Xiaomi 17T appears as a balanced flagship focused on battery life, Leica cameras, and performance without going fully ultra-premium. The Xiaomi 17 Max, meanwhile, feels aimed at buyers who want everything upgraded with a bigger battery, larger display, and a more aggressive multimedia setup.

For most users, the standard 17T will probably remain the safer and more practical option. But if Xiaomi does bring the 17 Max to India at competitive pricing, it could end up becoming one of the more interesting flagship launches this year purely because of how heavily it seems to prioritise battery life alongside flagship hardware.
