Xiaomi 17T series may debut in May, months ahead of usual schedule

Xiaomi’s T-series has usually launched in September, but this time it could arrive earlier than expected. A new rumor out of China suggests that the Xiaomi 17T and 17T Pro could launch as early as May, roughly four months ahead of Xiaomi’s usual schedule. If accurate, this would mark a significant reshuffle in the company’s global product roadmap and could position the 17T series closer to the first wave of 2026 flagship launches.

The Xiaomi 17T and 17T Pro are said to carry the model numbers 2602DPT53G for the 17T and 2602EPTC0G for the 17T Pro. Internally, they are reportedly codenamed “Chagall” and “Warhol,” respectively. In terms of hardware, the Xiaomi 17T is tipped to feature MediaTek’s Dimensity 8500 chipset, while the 17T Pro may opt for the more powerful Dimensity 9500. If that pairing holds true, Xiaomi appears to be maintaining the performance gap between the standard and Pro variants.

The Dimensity 9500-powered 17T Pro would likely target near-flagship performance, while the standard 17T might sit in the upper mid-range category. However, another report suggested the 17T would use the Dimensity 9400 instead of the Dimensity 8500, highlighting some inconsistency between sources.

Battery capacity is also rumored to see an upgrade across the board. Compared to the Xiaomi 15T series, both devices are expected to pack larger cells. One earlier leak claimed the 17T could feature a 6,500mAh battery with 67W charging, an upgrade over the 15T’s 5,500mAh battery.

Camera upgrades, on the other hand, may be more conservative. One previous rumor indicated that the 17T would retain the exact same camera setup as its predecessor. If true, Xiaomi may be focusing more on performance and battery longevity rather than imaging advancements this year.

Xiaomi’s T-series is for the global market and usually launched as rebrands of Redmi’s K-series. The same could be followed for the Xiaomi 17T and 17T Pro. Xiaomi also doesn’t bring these phones to India, although the flagship models arrive here. This has to do with branding and how Xiaomi arranges products for the Chinese and global markets.

Based on the details so far, the Xiaomi 17T Pro would likely appeal to gamers and power users looking for flagship-like performance without stretching into ultra-premium pricing territory. The standard 17T, especially if powered by the Dimensity 8500, may serve as a more balanced option for users prioritising battery life and smooth day-to-day performance.

Until more concrete details emerge, though, the conflicting reports surrounding the processor choices are a reminder to take these early leaks with a pinch of salt.
