Xiaomi’s Civi smartphone lineup may have been discontinued. The popular smartphone series, known for blending premium-looking designs with camera-focused hardware, may have reached the end of the road. A fresh claim from well-known tipster Digital Chat Station suggests the company has discontinued the series, with no next-generation Civi smartphone currently in development.
Xiaomi Civi series reportedly discontinued
The latest update, shared on Weibo, appears to settle months of conflicting rumours. Earlier reports had suggested Xiaomi scrapped the alleged Civi 6 after underwhelming sales of its predecessor. More recent leaks, however, claimed the device had returned to development and would feature a 200MP rear camera, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, and even a dedicated AI button. If the new information is accurate, those plans have now been abandoned.
If Xiaomi has indeed pulled the plug, the Civi 5 Pro could become the final entry in the series. The lineup debuted with the Xiaomi Civi and later expanded with the Civi 1S, Civi 2, Civi 3, Civi 4 Pro, and Civi 5 Pro. Throughout its run, the series targeted users looking for stylish, lightweight smartphones that also delivered capable selfie and rear camera performance in the premium mid-range segment. The lineup positioned itself above the Redmi Note series, and gave users an alternative to Xiaomi’s more performance-focused numbered series.
The Civi lineup had only a limited presence outside China. Xiaomi rebranded the Civi 5 Pro for select global markets, but reports later suggested the company dropped plans to launch it in India. As a result, the Xiaomi 14 Civi, introduced in June 2024, remains the only Civi-branded smartphone officially released in the country.
Xiaomi has not confirmed the reported cancellation, so the future of the lineup remains unofficial for now. However, speculation points to inconsistent demand across different markets as a possible reason behind the decision. The Civi lineup may have been replaced by the Xiaomi 17T, at least in India. Part of Xiaomi’s flagship series, the Xiaomi 17T also targets the premium mid-range category with a premium design, strong cameras, and a well-balanced package overall.
Those considering a camera-centric Xiaomi phone may find the Xiaomi 17T a compelling option, and not wait for a new Civi model. As for existing Civi users, the phones should be fine as long as they’re receiving software updates.
