The Oppo N1 Mini is mini by name, but not if you take the innovations it packs into account
Sep 10 2014 By Nitansh RastogiThere`s nothing really wrong with the Oppo N1 Mini per se – it comes with a good display, a capable and innovative camera and a decent configuration. But there is another much more important criteria for choosing a smartphone – it`s pricing. The price of a smartphone, or any product, for that matter, is so crucial that it can make or break it. Sadly, the Oppo N1 Mini fails on this aspect. At the asking price of Rs 26,990, it`s very difficult for us to recommend this phone. To put thin
Read Full ReviewOppo N1 Mini(5inch),the smaller sibling to their popular N1 (5.9inch) borrows many of the features from its bigger bro, like the Rotating Camera,O-Click Accessory Support,Color OS etc. nn# Build Quality and SizenWe now live in a world were 5 inch phones are now called Mini. For me, it's still a big device and I'm sure for many of you too. Those who have never got hands on an Oppo N1 would definitely mistake this 'Mini' device for the original N1 as both look identical. You are getting a premium quality device, well designed and well built, and your friends WON'T ask "Which is this new cheap Chinese device you are holding?"nn# Displayn720P screens have now become the norm in anything above 15K. Mini sports a 5inch IPS 720P (1280x720) display, with good viewing angles. The original N1 has a 1080P screen - more the pixels, higher the battery consumption is,so its a good thing OPPO decided to push this out with a 720P one so that the smaller 2140mAh battery it has, lasts longer.nn# Internal SpecsnThis is one area where i think Oppo could have improved N1 Mini. This is powered by Snapdragon 400 MSM8928 Quad-core clocked at 1.6Ghz and Adreno 305 GPU. This combination is quite capable and you would hardly find the device lagging, even when playing graphics intense games. But since this is priced at 26990 (as of this writing) i would have loved this coming with the processor/gpu combination seen in Xiaomi Mi3/Nexus 5. It comes with 2GB ram, helping in good gaming and multitasking.nn# SoftwarenOppo ships their devices with their customized Android OS named Color OS which has a lot of useful features, custom gestures and themes support. The current version on N1 Mini is based on Android 4.3 and 4.4 Kitkat based one is said to be in the works. I am not sure when this will get the update as there is not official word on it yet. The original N1 came with official CyanogenMod support which is missing in Mini version, even though you might find unofficial builds on xda if enough devs have got hold of this device.Check You-tube to know more about ColorOS features, gestures and themes.nn# CameranThe most attractive feature on the N1 Mini is the rotating camera it has. If you are a selfie addict, this will serve you very well as you can rotate the main camera on to the front and take great selfies. Oppo is said to have tested this rotating thingy for thousands of rotations and guarantees it to last long. The camera sensor is made by Sony (1/3.2 size) with a f/2.0 aperture - smaller the aperture is ,greater the amount of light gets in. Oppo has included a Ultra HD mode with which you can take 24MP pictures which is made possible by some software magic. There is also a long exposure/slow shutter feature which you would find useful if into light painting and to do other creative photographic stuffs.Overall camera performance is Good, takes good pictures in well lighted conditions and gets a little noisy when the light drops. Check out Flickr or Google for some sample images.nn# O-Click AccessorynOppo's O-Click accessory is unique and communicates with the phone over bluetooth. You can use this to Find your misplaced device or can be used to trigger the camera shutter which is quite useful to get some blur free group selfies. It Costs Rs 1800.nn# Benchmarks Score - On Antutu it scores around 21000 which is good and on Nenamark GPU test, 58fps.nn# Storage - 16GB edition. There is no micro sdcard slot to add external storage, but OTG is supported.nn# Battery - N1 had a massive 3610 mAh battery and as you can expect on Mini, it is a comparatively small one - 2140mAh. Good enough to last you a day of modetate use.nn# VerdictnN1 Mini, like the original N1 is a unique device. You are sure gonna find a lot better performing devices for a lesser/similar price shipping with Stock Android Kitkat, but in many you would miss the excellent built quality and the unique selfie friendly camera. The only other OEM that offers a rotating camera is Gionee. The other popular selfie centric camera in the market is Sony's newly launched Xperia C3 which has a front camera with flash. Also Lava is rumored to be launching a similar selfie phone soon. Like everyone who reviewed this device, i too agree that this should be priced lesser, maybe in 20k-22K range.
i dont know which fool will buy this phone for 26k. moto g is available at 13k with almost same specs except for ram and front camera. redmi note will be launching in october which has 2gb ram, octacore,13mp camera.. so better wait for redmi note or buy moto g instead of this crap
