A good multilingual flap phone with great value for money!

I bought this phone in a hurry (hence from a retailer) as a gift to my grandmother since it qualified all my criteria: Primary: - Telugu language support - Flap phone (my grandmother loved them) - Expandable memory Secondary: - Huge keys which are easy to use - Camera - Huge display Bundle: The entire bundle contains only the bare minimum stuff. - Phone - Earphones (with extra ear buds) - Charger - User Manual But what are missing were: - USB cable (though any standard USB cable can be used) - Memory card (which they could have included) - Disc containing software & drivers Build: The phone is all plastic but doesn't look cheap at all. In fact it looks quite royal & beautiful. It is light, easy to hold in hand & provides a firm grip. The keys are alphanumeric & sport Hindi alphabets too. They are big enough to be typed easily & are not hard to press. Single handed operation of the phone is also possible with minimum errors. Overall the build quality was good. The right side of the phone has a headphone jack, a hot-swappable microSD slot & a USB port, which is used both for charging the phone & for connecting the device to the PC. But what is seriously missing is a physical the volume rocker. The empty space to the left could have been utilized for the same. Call quality: The call quality was good. The signal reception was also pretty good. All in all no complaints in this area. Menu: The home screen displays all the general details like tower, mode, battery & time. Along with this the top of the screen sports a dock which houses shortcuts which are customizable. Below the dock details like new messages & time & date are displayed generally. And if the music player is running a music widget gets added below the dock. The left & right keys were assigned to the menu & contacts respectively. The menu was fine to navigate (though was nothing compared to the ease Nokia S40 menus provide). But what I particularly liked was the way an item from a list can be directly selected by pressing the number on the key pad corresponding to the option. Navigating to the bluetooth menu took some time though it can be added as a shortcut to the dock. One thing I found really annoying was the inability to lower the volume if a sound file is played from the file explorer. Supported languages: English, Hindi, Marathi, Tamil, Bengali, Telugu, Kannada, Gujarati, Malayalam (and another one I couldn't decipher) Music Player: It was easy enough to navigate. The button layout was easy to follow. While playing a track the album cover, track name, artist, rating, equalizer, mode & the track length were displayed, thus covering all the important information. It featured a plethora of equalizer settings (13 to be exact). And the best part was that one jut had to hover over them to know how they feel, instead of selecting them. Saves quite a lot of time I've found. Speaker: It were clear & loud enough to heard from anywhere in the ground floor of my house. One single speaker is situated at the lower back side of the phone & tends to get covered by the hands every time the phone is held. Earphones: These surpassed my expectations. I'll say they were quite good for an value phone. They were a little low on the bass side but then that was expected. Otherwise, the music clarity was pretty good. They fit right into the ears & the noise cancellation was good. Also ear buds of different sizes were provided which will cater everyone's needs I'm sure. There is a single button provided which can be used to receive & hang up a call & also for pausing & playing the song currently being played. Camera: The first & foremost thing I noticed about the camera was its placement. It is situated on the lower side of the phone & due to this it always gets blocked by the hand. As far as the camera quality is concerned, it's not that bad for a value phone. The pictures look grainy though & lack color. The top & bottom keys of the D-pad are used for increasing & decreasing the brightness respectively & the left & right for zooming. It provides a maximum (digital) zoom of 2x. The camera does provide multiple shooting, white balance & exposure metering modes. The video shooting mode offers a maximum resolution of of 320x240. The video quality is also decent. Battery Life: This is one thing that took me by surprise. The phone has been charged only once in the morning of day before yesterday (except the half hour when it was connected to the PC). There was minimal use of calling & almost an hour of music has been played. I also left the bluetooth switched on for almost 12 hours & still I'm unable to see any drop in the battery status. PC Sync: The phone gets easily synced with the PC using a USB cable, though the same is not possible using bluetooth. For this you'll have to download Samsung Kies. I added contacts (in Telugu) using the suite & it all worked well. Though I haven't tried anything more.

Supeb phone for the budget of 3500 bucks!!

Well my sister bought this phone from flipkart and they delivered it within four days with a good waterproof packing, especially due to monsoon ;-) well now about this phone.. pros:- 1.big display 2.sturdy body for rough and tough use also gives good grip for those who has slippery hands 3.spacious keypad easy to type fast 4.instant messaging like msn, gtalk. 5.better menu display 6.music is superb if you use a better headset or else u wont get a bass effect in this.. or else its satisfactory. camera clearity fine for taking few images. cons:- 1.not ideal for gprs users...it gives less speed than nokia phones. 2.if you delete the playlist the songs also gets deleted. 3.camera images gets blurrs wen u zoom...come on 1.3 megapixels is not enough.... 4.not recommended to use facebook in this because it shows errors while putting your statuses or uploading any images... well that's it.. for those whose budget is 3500/- single sim i wuld suggest this for fair usage ^_^... or else if you're a nokia lover u will get x2-02 for same budget with much better camera and a dual sim phone.. hope this helps :-)
