Amazing read speeds. Average write speeds. Total value.

Should you buy this? Well, considering how closely its priced to other 32 GB pen drives, the decision is a no-brainer.nWhile it isnt a scorcher like the SanDisk Extreme pen drive (you can find my review on Flipkart), it definitely has enough grunt to actually make it worth the very small premium.nDon't have a USB 3.0 port? Well it's still worth it. You are still guaranteed a certain level of performance.nnBuild quality is good. The pen drive is fairly small and light. The housing is plastic with a sliding USB connector at one end and a gap at the other to attach a lanyard.nThe sliding mechanism feels good and has a locking mechanism. The USB connector is coloured blue to indicate USB 3.0 compatibility.nThe plastic housing has a matte finish on the sides and bottom and feels quite durable. The feel however does not come close to the awesome soft-touch feel of the SanDisk extreme.nThe top of the housing is glossy plastic to accentuate the SanDisk logo and add a bit of shine to the overall look.nnnPerformance summary:n- Amazing read speeds for few large files. You want a USB 3.0 port to take advantage of the read speeds.n- Pretty good performance for many smaller files. Better than most in this price range.n- Write speeds for few large files is pretty average. Was expecting more here. You won't lose much with a USB 2.0 port here.nnnBenchmarks:nnCrystalDiskMark 3.0.2 x64n- Test - Read Speed - Write Speedn- Seq. - 142.9 MB/s - 28.32 MB/sn- 512K - 114.3 MB/s - 0.454 MB/sn- 4K - 5.074 MB/s - 2.005 MB/sn- 4K QD32 - 4.126 MB/s - 1.717 MB/snDisappointing sequential write speeds. The 4K transfer speeds are pretty good though.nNote sure what is up with the 512K random write speeds. Some controller inefficiency maybe?nnSingle file copy; 3758 MB file on a RAM disk.n- Read - 29.4 seconds - 127.82 MB/sn- Write - 112.5 seconds - 33.40 MB/snRead speed were very consistent peaking to about 130 MB/s.nWrite speed started very slowly before settling in. The speeds fluctuated between 27 MB/s and 40 MB/s in a very regular pattern (graph looked like a sine wave :D). Peak speeds of 47 MB/s were observed.nnMultiple file copy; 1196 files over 8 folders totalling to 3825 MB on a RAM disk. The files consist of some ~5 MB photos taken on DSLR and some 1~2 MB photos taken on a phone.n- Read - 44.75 seconds - 85.47 MB/sn- Write - 139.56 seconds - 27.40 MB/snRead speeds were again very good, with very little fluctuation.nWrite speeds were strictly average. Nothing worth mentioning here.nnnConfiguration:nASRock Z87M Extreme4nCore i5 4670Kn2 x 4GB 1600 Mhz DDR3 RAMnWindows 8 64-bitnDataram RAMDisknThe motherboard software comes with a tool called XFastUSB which can increase the transfer speed for smaller file sizes. All tests were run with XFastUSB disabled.

Consistently fast transfer rates

I've used this pen drive for a week at the time of writing this review. So, here's a conventional review with the pros and cons listed.nnPros:nn1. Consistently fast writing speeds (in the USB 3.0 port of the laptop, of course). I got speeds of over 37 MBps in my Dell inspiron laptop.nn2. Looks pretty sturdy and well built.nn3. The USB plug-in part is made of metal (and not plastic) which is very good for durabilitynn4. Brilliant pricing when compared to other 16 GB USB 3.0 devices.nn5. Freebies like recovery software and password protected locker (duh).nn6. Indicator light during data transfer.nnCons:nn1. Comes only in black, ahem.nn2. No Batman symbol or missile launchers attached to it.nnBest 16 GB, USB 3.0 pen drive available now. Go ahead and buy it. You can thank me later.

Excellent speeds for affordable prices

I bought this a week before and I am fully satisfied with this product. Let me elaborate the pros and cons of this device. Pros: Excellent body design and neat looks High data transfer speeds. This may differ from machine to machine based on your configurations. But they guarantee speeds up to 100 Mbps. Affordable price Size is okay In-built driver and auto install Software for data encryption comes along with the drive which is a value added feature Light weight A hole for key chain or noose attachment is good Cons: Product is not as sturdy as it looks in the image. The outer plastic casing needs careful handling. The push/pull button to bring the male USB head out may wear&tear after considerable amount of time and usage Verdict: Overall quality is good and it offers good performance for the price paid. I have used Toshiba, TDK, Transcend and HP and I would this Seagate item stands way ahead of them. Just becuase of lack of sturdiness I am giving a 4 star for this product.
