Highlights
  • The M5 MacBook Pro comes with on-device AI.
  • The new model brings up to 3.5x faster AI performance, 1.6x better graphics, and up to 24 hours of battery life.
  • It will run on macOS Tahoe.

Apple has announced the new 14‑inch MacBook Pro in India and worldwide alongside the iPad Pro, driven by its all‑new M5 chip. The laptop provides up to 3.5× faster AI and 1.6× improved graphics compared to its M4 predecessor, at a marginally increased starting price of Rs 1,69,999 (the M4 MacBook Pro started at Rs 1,69,900).

The Apple M5 chip, based on third‑generation 3nm technology, offers a 10‑core GPU with a dedicated Neural Accelerator in every core. The design enables AI workloads based on GPU to perform over four times faster than in the M4 generation. Graphics performance is claimed to be up to 45 percent better. The 10-core CPU, with four performance and six efficiency cores, offers 15 percent quicker multithreaded performance than the M4. For content creators, developers, and AI users, the M5 allows for large language model execution, generative AI apps, and on-device inference operations without the cloud. The unified memory bandwidth has also been increased by almost 30 percent, enabling devices to effortlessly process enormous on-device AI models and creative workloads.

The M5 MacBook Pro keeps the 14‑inch Liquid Retina XDR display with a peak HDR brightness of 1600 nits and a nano‑texture option. It features a 12 MP Centre Stage webcam, a six‑speaker Spatial Audio system, MagSafe 3 charging, and an unspecified number of Thunderbolt 4 ports. The computer is powered by macOS Tahoe, with new features such as the new Liquid Glass UI and Apple Intelligence, enhanced Shortcuts automation, and generative text tools.

Apple guarantees “all-day” battery life with up to 24 hours of use on a fully charged battery, claimed to be the longest ever on a Mac notebook. The laptop allows up to 2× faster SSD speeds, improving workflows for video editing, large file transfers, and RAW image processing.

The 14-inch MacBook Pro with M5 starts at Rs 1,69,999 for the standard 16GB RAM + 512GB SSD variant, and students can purchase it for Rs 1,59,900 through Apple’s Education Store. The higher storage options range up to Rs 2,09,900 for 24GB RAM + 1TB SSD configurations. It comes in Space Black and Silver finishes. Pre‑orders are available now on Apple’s online store, with availability in retail stores starting October 22nd in Apple Stores and authorised resellers throughout India.
