It brings Android 16, the September security patch, and new features.
One UI 8 is expected to hit more Samsung phones in India soon.
Samsung may have been late with One UI 7, but it has picked up the pace for its latest One UI 8 rollout. It’s now among the first brands, only behind Google, to deliver the Android 16-based update. The Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7 debuted with One UI 8 out of the box, and the software is gradually expanding to more flagship models. Now, even budget phones are getting it, with some Galaxy M36 (review) and Galaxy F36 users in India reporting the update.
According to an X user, One UI 8 is live for the Galaxy M36 and Galaxy F36, with screenshots showing the update ready to download. The build numbers are E366BXXU2BYI4, E366BODM2BYI4, and E366BXXU2BYI3, and the download size is around 2.3GB. It also includes the September security patch. Another post on Samsung’s community forum shows a similar update prompt for the Galaxy M36. Since the rollout has begun, it should reach all M36 and F36 users in India soon.
For context, the Galaxy M36 and F36 are essentially the same device but branded differently for online stores, as the M36 is sold on Amazon, while the F36 is a Flipkart exclusive. The M36 launched in India this June for Rs 17,499, and the F36 followed a month later at the same price.
The highlight of One UI 8 is the shift to Android 16, but Samsung has added its own refinements. You can now pin one app to the edge in split screen, keeping it partially visible while focusing on the other. Tap it anytime to switch instantly. The Reminder app gets a cleaner look with category tabs showing counts at a glance. In Camera, swipe up or down on the preview for quicker access to controls. The Samsung Internet menu is now more streamlined for frequently used features.
Since One UI 7 already brought a major visual refresh, One UI 8 doesn’t change the interface dramatically. However, future updates could. One UI 8.5, which was recently spotted online, is said to bring a new 3D look with icons that appear raised from the display.
Samsung is rolling out One UI 8 globally, with several Galaxy A-series and M-series phones now receiving it. Older flagships such as the Galaxy S23 and S22 have also been updated, though this marks the last major update for the S22. By the end of this year, the most recent Samsung phones are expected to run One UI 8.
