Ok, first of all its 1080p screen not 768p. Secondly, I have not noticed any flickers. The laptop has felt sturdy to say the least, the built quality is absolutely amazing barring the touchpad, which wobble, as they say. But then again, that is not an issue really, something which needs to get used to. Everything seems to be working fine for now, I can read everything clearly, no issues on that part as well. I am yet to test the gaming performance, but the rumors about screen and legibility are all wrong.Very pleased with the way it looks and the accessories are a real good icing on the cake. nAccessories included a cerebrus headphone and a gaming mouse, both, again, felt very good built
I brought this Asus laptop yesterday (30-06-2015) from my local Asus showroom. I got it for 69000, and then got a Asus laptop bag, a United Colours of Benetton bag, a gaming headphone, a Asus gaming mouse free. I also agreed to pay extra Rs.800 for which I am getting 3 years warranty free a batman gaming mouse and headphone and an antivirus. Now, with so many free items and with a laptop whose specs were far beyond its price (come on, you have to agree with me here, i7 4720 processor, GTX 950 graphics card, clock speeds of 2.6-3.6 GHz, 8 GB RAM- expandable to 16 GBs, 1TB HDD- expendable to 2TB, SATA card- expandable to 256 GB). Moreover with all the possible expansions this laptop is quite future proof (I know, you think there is nothing called a future proof laptop but still). Add to this the great design, backlit keyboard, amazing resolution, lit logo of ROG behind the screen. This laptop is a must buy. nnI was worried about some of the criticisms of this laptop like the plastic make, wobbly touch pad, hazy resolution of reading materials and more specifically the screen flickering if we do not use it at 100% brightness. So, I went to the store before and checked it out. nnFirst, the plastic- almost all gaming laptops are plastic, some use little metal like aluminium but that is mostly for style or decorations. The plastic in this laptop is very hard, don’t worry and the shake that you see in the online reviews of this laptop when pressed hard are due to the rubber underneath the laptop. nnScreen Flickering- I have had no problems with screen flickering and I have used it mostly at around 75% brightness but also sometimes in 100%. nWobbly touchpad- yes the touch pad is wobbly, but I like it, it gives the feeling of pressing mouse buttons.nnHazy resolution- At first I also found it difficult to read stuff on the internet like on facebook, then I went to Personalization-Display-Adjust Clear Text type- and now it is all solved.nnGaming experience- It has been less than 24 hours since I brought this laptop so I only got to play one game “Injustice- Gods amongst us” and by God it blew my mind. I played this game in full 1920X1080 resolution with 60 fps. I had played this before in my budget hp laptop with amd quad core processor and dual graphics but nothing prepared me for the surprise in the difference in performance. In this asus laptop it ran so smoothly, so fast, no stuttering nothing. nnI know it is not the most demanding game, but the way this laptop played it without even stressing itself (with 3 programs running at the background) in the highest resolution speaks volumes to me. I wrote this review so soon because the stock of this laptop is almost over. Its over in flipkart and even in small cities like Guwahati. So, if you can still lay yours hands on one go and get it- or you will not find any laptop with such specs so cheap, so soon and with so many goodies.
I bought my ASUS GL552JX last month from a local dealer. nnInitially, I wanted to get the lenovo y 50 but it was out of my budget and as a result I had to settle with ASUS gl552jx. However, I am still happy with the laptop. The ASUS ROG series is very popular among gamers around the world. Moreover, ASUS is providing very good features for the given price. Also, there are hardly any other laptops under 70k with an i7hq processor. nnI have played batman arkham knight on the laptop. The game runs very well with negligible lag. nPros:n1. The laptop looks awesome and feels sturdy. The ROG logo on the lid which lights up, really enhances the look of the laptop.n2. The i74720hq processor provides great performance. n3. No heating problem; you can easily rest it on your lap while using. The heat vent gets heated but other parts hardly get heated. n4. It has a m.2 slot for inserting a SSD (up to 256 GB). I am very glad with this feature. There is probably no laptop in this price range (60-80k) which has a m.2 slot for SSD. Others have hybrid storage (HDD + SSD), but only with 8GB of SSD.n5. The keyboard is backlit. Not very bright, but bright enough to work in dark.n6. The display is amazing; IPS screen(1080p) with matte finished. y50 is costlier and yet doesn't have an IPS display. Also, I didn't encounter any flickering issues with the screen.n7. The headphone and the mouse are really cool. I really thank ASUS for these.n8. The optical drive.Since I compared the laptop with y50 I found this to an added feature. nnCons:n1. The battery lasts for around 3 hours, after continuous use. Even less when streaming videos.n2. The ram is 2x4GB and not 1x8GB. Thus, if you want to expand it to 16GB you will have to buy two 8GB ram. nnThere is also a problem that I am experiencing with the screen. I can see white patches at the corners of the screen while it displays black color, especially in the night. Initially I thought that the backlight was leaking and got the laptop replaced. But that didn't solve the problem and so I tried replacing the screen. Yet the white patches were visible. In the end I found that the problem was with the frame. The frame pressed the screen in corners causing the white patches.The technicians have told me that they will try making some settings and if that didn't work they will change the entire frame surrounding the screen. If you are observing white patches at the corners of your, especially when the ROG logo appear at start, you might be facing the same problem.
After spending close to a 5 figure you could still end up with a shi**y display of 768p resolution or a TN display.nThe laptop also comes with IPS 1080p but there is no clear information as to which version the buyer will end up with.nFLIPKART, please calrify
It is 1080p IPS panel.nIts made of plastic unlike other ROG which are of aluminium.But Build quality is still great.nThere is screen flickering at 0-99% brightness i.e. only solution is to keep it at 100% all times.But screen flickering is not that usual. IT is generally in games or video with great colour variation.nAnd 100% brightness is totally acceptable as this is a gaming laptop so it will be on battery at all times.nDesign of this laptop is superb.nthere is not any overheating issues because of its thickness. nThis is best laptop you can buy under 70000 RS. nJust try it on asus store before buying and experience it yourself. nOR you could buy lenovo y50 Gtx 860m-75000 RS nOR you could wait for lenovo y50 Gtx 960m-80000-90000 RS (expected)
