R.D. Burman's last work as music director.

Madhuri Dixit was the original choice for the role of Rajeshwari "Rajjo" Pathak. In fact, Javed Akhtar wrote the song "Ek Ladki Ko Dekha To" keeping Madhuri in mind. However, due to scheduling conflicts she dropped out and was immediately replaced by Manisha Koirala who got the role after auditioning for the second time.

Aamir Khan was signed on to play the lead role, but wasn't able to give dates to Vidhu Vinod Chopra, so he was replaced with Anil Kapoor.

The film's premier was scheduled at 9:30 pm at Metro cinema in Bombay many known celebrity from film industry were invited for the premier as per the time schedule the film started 5 minutes late at 09:35 pm where in Vidhu Vinod Chopra got up and started closing all the doors of theatre which he had done in order to prevent disturbance from people who would arrive late at premier as he taught he had spent four years of life on this film and those who don't respect his film also don't respect him this incident had left many well known actor's and directors waiting outside the cinema hall.

An unshaven Kumar Sanu had gone to record the song "Ek ladki ko dekha to". when Vinod Chopra saw Kumar like that, Vinod thought the song did not sound young as required, so he told Kumar to go home and shave then the recording would take place, Kumar went next day, clean shaven, Vinod was happy and the song was recorded. The song fetched Kumar Sanu an award.
