IMDbMost sports stories focus on how individuals develop teamwork skills, but this adaptation of 'League' makes an unexpected diversion by examining how the team's safety net promotes personal development. Carson urges her teammate Lupe played by Roberta Colindrez and Max to pitch authentically rather than following the coach's instructions or imitating notable pitchers of the time. "A League of Their Own" takes aim at concepts related to Blackness in particular, as well as LGBT identities and spaces. The location of this series is the same as that of Penny Marshall's nearly perfect 1992 film. This series features some highlights spread among eight hour-long episodes, including a few lively moments and sweet and exciting flirtations. What's lacking are strong feelings, jazzy glamour, and genuine tension, emotional release, or drive. The actual baseball play is hazy and primarily in footage, and the season's inherent rhythm and stakes, which are often evident, are absent.

The All-American Girls Professional Baseball League was founded by chewing gum magnate Philip K. Wrigley with tryouts held at Wrigley Field in Chicago. In the series, the field is owned by "Morris Baker," owner of a candy bar company, likely inspired by Franklin Mars of Chicago-based Mars, Inc. Mars acquired Wrigley in 2008.
Maybelline Blair, who was the inspiration for the story, came out as a lesbian at age 95. She came out publicly for the first time during the Tribeca Festival premiere of the Amazon Studios of this series (about June 2022).
This is the second attempt to adapt the 1992 movie A League of their Own into a TV series. The first try was a CBS sitcom featuring Megan Cavanagh (Marla Hooch) and Tracy Reiner (Betty "Spaghetti" Horn), reprising the roles they played in the movie. Several of the behind-the-scenes personnel were the same (the movie's screenwriters, Babaloo Mandel and Lowell Ganz, were producers, and the movie's director, Penny Marshall, was one of the directors) but all the other roles were recast (Sam McMurray played the Tom Hanks role--though Hanks did direct an episode); Carey Lowell and Christine Elise took the Geena Davis and Lori Petty roles, respectively).
Filmed around Pittsburgh Pennsylvania August-October 2021
Rosie O'Donnell announced she is set to guest star as a bartender at a local gay bar in the series
