The reason why the movie seems disjointed is because they filmed the first part and then took a break. However, during the break lead actress Caitlin Stacey booked another role and never returned to finish the film. So the filmmakers needed to figure out some way to complete the movie without their lead actress, which led to the parallel plot featuring Andrew.
