Richard Dreyfuss' first shark film since his iconic portrayal of Hooper in Jaws (1975), not counting his narration of the 2007 Shark Week TV movie "Ocean of Fear". He portrayed Matt Boyd in the 2010 remake of "Piranha" which was a nod to his Matt Hooper character. Incidentally, the Piranha film series is in itself is a spoof of Jaws.
The release of this film marks the 50th anniversary of the release of Jaws (1975), which was Richard Dreyfuss' first acting performance in a shark film.
Tagline is a direct copy of the one from Alien (1979).
