The story of the film takes place after the defeat of Spartacus. General Crassus, the villain, was the Roman General who defeated Spartacus in 71 BC.
In ancient history. Zenobia was the ruler of the Palmyrene Empire in Roman Syria during the third century. Zenobia took over, when her husband King Septimimus Odaenathus died. She fought the Romans, conquered Egypt and expanded her empire before being eventually defeated. In the film, Zenobia is killed by Crassus, which is inaccurate.

Borrowed plot elements from the 1982 film "Conan The Barbarian".
There are similarities between the film and "Conan The Barbarian": Serena is a young girl, when General Crassus attacks her village, murders her family and enslaves her. Serena becomes a Amazon Warrior, when she set is free. Serena falls in love with Lucius, whom is later killed by Crassus. After she kills Crassus and has her revenge, she becomes the new Amazonian Queen.
