TRIVIA AND POPULAR DIALOGUES

Trivia

Harold Ramis executive produced the film but asked to have his name removed from both the producer and screenwriter credits because he did not like the final cut of the film. Only his producer credit was removed.

The role of Norman Kane was originally intended for Tom Hanks. When Hanks couldn't do it, John Candy suggested fellow veteran SCTV star Eugene Levy.

[56:44] When Frank Dooley and Norman Kane are escaping the party at Michael Carlino's mansion, a Roman-architecture building can be seen in the background. This building was used as Tony Montana's business front in Scarface (1983). Both movies also starred Robert Loggia.

This was at first going to star John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd, until Belushi died. Plans were for the movie to star Harold Ramis and Dan Aykroyd. The next permutation was for John Candy and Dan Aykroyd as leads, with John Carpenter to direct. In the end, Aykroyd and Carpenter both left the movie, leading to Levy and Candy.

When John Candy and Eugene Levy's characters arrive at the warehouse for work, Tiny Lister's character gives them two Detex time clocks. These are commonly used in the security industry to show a security guard actually walked their "rounds" while on duty. How it works is the guard carries this clock while walking around the location they're protecting. They punch the clock with small keys, which are hanging at different locations around the protected site. Each key is numbered corresponding to the certain location, and when it's put into the clock the guard is carrying it literally punches the key number onto a small piece of paper inside the clock. This will show when and where the guard was at during their security rounds.

Popular Dialogues

"Noreen: [48:22] Gosh, I didn't realize it was going to be this formal. If I had known it was going to be this kind of party I would have worn underwear."

"Norman Kane: [17:30] That's it? Just like that, huh? Maggie Cavanaugh: Mr. Kane, there are only two things that you have to remember - never fall asleep where anyone can see you and make sure your name is very clearly marked on your lunch. Norman Kane: Well, I can handle that."
