Titus Vossberg based the villa decoration on actual Roman decorations. The wall painting of the study, the atrium, Augustus' bedroom and Julia's bedroom were all inspired by the authentic wall paintings that originally came from a villa belonging to Agrippa and Julia.
The full German title "Augustus - Mein Vater, der Kaiser" literally means in English "Augustus - My Father, the Emperor." The title "My Father, the Emperor" was originally going to be the international English title, but distributors felt that "Augustus" was more suitable.
As part of the contract deal, the British and Italian companies hired actors and actresses from each of the countries that put money into the making of the film.
