TRIVIA AND POPULAR DIALOGUES

Trivia

Will was stated to be 48 while Charlotte is supposed to be 22, old enough to be her father. Richard Gere was 51 while Winona Ryder was actually 29 during production.

Not screened in advance for critics. Richard Gere spoke out publicly against this move, saying it damned the film's credibility. MGM countered that the reason for the action was that they didn't want critics spoiling the film's "surprise" ending.

The first major Hollywood film to be helmed by a woman of Asian origin.

Feature film debut of Daniella Van Graas, Rachel Nichols, Liza Lapira , Tawny Cypress and Paige Handler.

At about midway through, before the Halloween party, Charlotte quotes Emily Dickinson's "Hope is the thing with feathers" to hint at the person her costume is meant to represent and he guesses, "Woody Allen?" The guess can be understood, as one of Allen's most popular books, "Without Feathers," uses the poem in a story in the book. This is Allen's reference: "How wrong Emily Dickinson was! Hope is not "the thing with feathers." The thing with feathers has turned out to be my nephew. I must take him to a specialist in Zurich."

Popular Dialogues

"John: Buddy, I hate to break it to you, but in the real world... where I live... there're only two kinds of love stories. Boy loses girl and girl loses boy. That's all there is. Somebody always gets left behind. You try to avoid that, you'll end up an old man toastin' yourself with egg nog in the mirror on Christmas Eve. You'll end up dying in your own arms."

"Will: You don't want to die! You want to live! Charlotte: You don't think I've been through this so many times? I don't want to give people hope when there isn't any! Will: Why not? Maybe we need hope."
