The name "Espn" for Jim's (Adam Sandler's) daughter (Emma Fuhrmann) in the movie came from Adam's visit to a barbecue restaurant in Boca Raton, Florida. The owner had pictures of his kids up, and one of their names was Espn. Adam thought it was a really fun name and asked the owner if he could use it in his new movie for one of his kids. Obviously, the owner was happy to oblige.
This is the third Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore romantic comedy. The others being The Wedding Singer (1998) and 50 First Dates (2004).
Jim (Adam Sandler) mentions that he manages a Dick's Sporting Goods store in Ridgefield. Ridgefield was the name of the town in which The Wedding Singer (1998) was set. The Wedding singer also starred Drew Barrymore.
The band that sings back-up for Nickens is Ladysmith Black Mambazo.
At the end of the movie, when the camera pans up to the chorus men in the air balloon, the fans and players on the baseball field are arranged in the shape of Africa.
"Lauren: You know, I'm curious. With so many possible reasons, which one's the one your wife left you for? Jim: Cancer. Lauren: [awkward pause] I'm sorry. I naturally just assumed you were divorced. Jim: It's okay. I naturally assumed your husband shot himself, so we're even."
"Mfana: Look children, the bush pig has lost his parents so it is been cared for by mama and papa lion. Even in nature, there are blended families. Jim: That's nice. That's sweet. [Shortly there was a mixture of roaring, crunching, and pig squeals as the lions were eating the bush pig off screen. Espn was screaming and everyone was shocked about what they saw] Mfana: I may have misread that situation."
