This film was Rick Moranis' last acting role until he came out of retirement to star in Shrunk.
The original plan for the movie was for Rutt and Tuke to be the main characters, without any appearance from Kenai or Koda, but that idea was vetoed.
For unknown reasons, Joaquin Phoenix, who had voiced Kenai in Brother Bear (2003), did not reprise his role for this film.
By the time of the film's release, Koda's voice actor, Jeremy Suarez, had already gone through puberty. This was his last film to feature his young-sounding voice.
Brother Bear 2 has some deleted scenes that were unfortunately not included on the DVD Bonus Features: Full Complete Childhood Scene (including a Young Atka).Kenai's Nightmare involving Atka (Kenai has a nightmare surrounding the death of his brother Sitka).Alternate Ending (Kenai decides to return to his human form permanently).
