TRIVIA AND POPULAR DIALOGUES

Trivia

Open auditions were held at schools and local community centers across London for the three friends. Neither Liam Whiting nor Byron Lyons had any previous acting experience.

Butterfly Kisses was originally developed through the BBC and Film London Microwave scheme, but was ultimately produced by Blue Shadows Films.

It was decided by the production that either they would shoot colour or black and white from the start rather than the industry norm, which is to shoot in colour and decide during post production. Following extensive test shoots, they decided to shoot on the Red Dragon Monochrome, a special edition Red camera with no colour sensor, giving the film a very luminescent, and ultimately unique look. This is the first feature that has ever been shot entirely with this camera. In fact, the UK, where the film was shot, only had two of these camera in the entire country.

The film is based on a series of email exchanges with anonymous person who went under the pseudonym Butterfly Kisses.

Peter Dexter (Kyle's on-screen father) was literally street cast. The director was location hunting, and one of the home-owners was Peter Dexter. The production nevertheless considered more established actors for the same role, but ended up persuading him to come audition.

Popular Dialogues

"Kyle: I never thought I'd see the day when the sight of a good ass would make me feel sick."

"Kyle: Fuck sake... Everywhere I look I see horses."
