Prano Bailey-Bond said in an interview that she had the idea for Censor around 2012. "I was reading an article about Hammer Horror [the British studio that made the likes of Dracula, The Mummy and Curse of the Wolfman] which looked at how film censors worked in that period. It made me think, 'If violent images are meant to make us lose control, what prevents the censor from doing that?' It was that hypocrisy of thinking, 'I can watch this, but if you watch it you're going to go out and shoot someone'."
At 1:01:50, when Enid is in the camper, the two upper photographs she sees are pinched onto a poster of the famous Francisco Goya's painting 'Saturn Devouring His Son'.
The cover on the case Enid picks up in the video store foreshadows the ending.
Ironically, English actress Clare Holman plays an Irish character and Irish actress Niamh Algar plays an English character.
Censor was preceded by the director's short Nasty (2015).
"Perkins: You can be surprised what the human brain can edit out when it can't handle the truth."
"Doug Smart: [gurgles] Enid Baines: Thank you for the whisky, I'll see myself out."
