Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this is the first Amazon Original film to completely bypass a theatrical release (no matter how small) and debut directly on the streaming platform.
Richard Tanne was so enamored of Krystal Sutherland's novel "Our Chemical Hearts" that he started adapting it even before the film rights had been secured. Sutherland was sufficiently impressed by Tanne's screenplay that she granted him the rights.
