After multiple delays due to reshoots and the 2023 Hollywood strikes, the series is slated to air sometime in 2025, making it to debut 10 years after the Netflix series Daredevil (2015).
It was announced in October 23, 2023 that Kevin Feige and the other Marvel executives watched the first few episodes during the writers and actors strike and didn't like what they saw. So they fired the writers and directors and will search for new creative people.
This show is named after the 1986 comic book story arc of the same name, which was written by Frank Miller. However, it will not be a direct adaptation. Elements of the arc had previously been incorporated into season three of the Netflix series.
Following the creative overhaul, Wilson Bethel is set to reprise his role of Benjamin "Bullseye" Pointdexter from the Netflix Daredevil series. Early reports say it'll be for three episodes.
The show was conceived as an episodic soft reboot of the original Netflix series with a comparatively lighter tone. However, the creative overhaul of the show and the return of original Netflix cast members not previously cast in the series confirmed that the show will be a serialized continuation of the Netflix storylines.
The initial 18-episode order for the first season was split into two separate seasons after a creative overhaul.
Krysten Ritter reprises her role as Jessica Jones, marking a significant return from the Netflix era of Marvel shows.
A third season was greenlit by Marvel Studios in September 2025, before the second season's premiere.
The storyline is expected to draw inspiration from the 'Devil's Reign' comic book arc, where Mayor Fisk outlaws superheroes.
