The private research laboratory in the series is named "Lambda" and has a Greek letter lambda as its logo. The letter lambda is also the logo of the video game series Half-Life; in that instance it comes from the Lambda Team research group. In both cases, Lambda is responsible for an experiment in high energy physics that unleashed entities from another plane of existence, although everything else about the catastrophes is very different. This is likely to be a deliberate nod by the writers.
