Rotten Tomatoes"Dave" is a refreshingly innovative and entertaining comedy series that depicts a fictionalised version of rapper Lil Dicky's life and career. The show provides a unique and exciting viewing experience with its creative writing, excellent performances, and a wonderful balance of humour and emotion. Dave struggles with insecurity, relationships, and pursuing his aspirations. The show brilliantly mixes laugh-out-loud moments with thought and emotion, lifting it above the average comedy series. One of the show's finest qualities is the way it is written. The makers of the show, notably Dave Burd, bring a fresh and distinctive perspective to the comedy genre. The wit is clever, humorous, and at times self-deprecating, with outstanding wordplay and pop culture references that keep the gags sharp and unexpected. The series is not afraid to address current societal concerns and personal struggles, infusing the humour with depth and realism. "Dave" has something for everyone, whether you like rap music or not, with its relevant themes, unique characters, and laugh-out-loud moments. It's a must-see for everyone looking for a unique and amusing comedy series.

GaTa is Lil Dicky's real on stage hype man.
Prior to this show, Dave Burd's only experience with acting was mainly in his own music videos. Despite not having any experience with writing, producing, and starring in a sitcom, according to co-star Taylor Misiak, Burd "Is extremely professional on set and VERY RARELY breaks character." Burd also gives his co stars room to improvise so they can inject their own personality into their characters. Especially co stars, GaTa and Benny Blanco.
In 2019, Burd appeared on "Sway in the morning" to perform a freestyle. Within the freestyle, one of his lines is "Kareem Abdul, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, these hooks keep me scoring, see me coming from a far" In season 2, episode 4 "Kareem Abdul-Jabbar", Kareem comes across the lyric and wants to meet Dave to write an article about him. In the show, "Kareem Abdul-Jabbar" is a full song. However the whole episode is based on just one line that Burd totally improvised 2 years before.
Some main cast and guests stars are actors who have appeared in Lil Dicky's music videos.
In a 2021 interview on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Dave Burd reveals that when he was preparing for his crying scene in Season 2, Episode 8, "The Burds", he had his real life parents record and send him a video of them pretending to say goodbye for the last time. While filming the actual scene, Burd wore a Bluetooth earpiece, listening, while a production assistant standing off the side, held up an iPad of the videos of his parents playing over and over.
