Goldie Herschlag (Melissa Leo) was inspired by legendary LA comedy club owner Mitzi Shore who, like Goldie, mentored, personally auditioned and sometimes housed the comics (including co creator Jim Carrey) who appeared in her club.
This is the second time Sebastian Stan and Clark Duke have worked together, the first being Hot Tub Time Machine (2010).
Clark Duke and Jake Lacy appeared together as interns on the last season of The Office. Andrew Santino and Jim Carrey also appeared in earlier episodes of the series.
Melissa Leo & Michel Angarano previously starred together in Red State (2011)
Andrew Santino (Bill) and Ginger Gonzaga (Maggie) previously worked together on the short-lived Mixology (2013-2014).
