When the film was launched, Dharmesh Darshan was to direct the film with Ajay Devgan in Bobby Deol's role and Katrina Kaif in Kareena Kapoor's role.
Sajid Nadiadwala took legal action against Suneel Darshan for using the title "Dosti". He claimed he had registered the title and he had the rights to it. Darshan claimed his film was called " Dosti- Friends Forever".
