IMDbThe 2020 series "Dracula" takes a fresh and modern approach to the classic vampire figure, fusing horror, suspense, and dark humour. While the series provides intriguing ideas and a captivating performance by Claes Bang as the titular character, it fails in performance, leading audiences with mixed sentiments. Each episode explores the immortal vampire's contacts with diverse people, including the brave Sister Agatha Van Helsing, in a distinct historical period and place. Claes Bang's portrayal of Dracula is a series high point. He gives the character a fascinating and intriguing presence, perfectly capturing the essence of the alluring and terrifying vampire. His performance is both enthralling and terrifying, giving depth and complexities to the legendary part. The show tries to inject dark humour and consciousness into the classic vampire story, which can be refreshing at times. It plays with the norms of the genre and the audience's expectations, introducing shocking twists and turns to the story.

The exterior shots of Castle Dracula were filmed at Orava Castle, which is situated on a high rock above Orava river in the village of Oravský Podzámok, Slovakia. This is the same castle that appeared in the silent horror classic Nosferatu (1922).
The design of Dracula evolves over the course of the three chapters, each of which pay homage to a previous incarnation of the iconic vampire; the initial, decaying state of the elderly Count Dracula resembles Gary Oldman's rendition in Francis Ford Coppola's Dracula (1992). Dracula's long coat and cape with a wide resting tunic is directly inspired by Sir Christopher Lee's costume in his debut film Horror of Dracula (1958). And Dracula's dinner attire aboard the Demeter is of the classic Bela Lugosi design, complete with a red amulet.
To prepare for the role, Claes Bang watched as many Dracula interpretations as he could. He was particularly impressed with Klaus Kinski's portrayal of the vampire in Werner Herzog's Nosferatu the Vampyre (1979).
Doctor Who Easter Egg: Mina's letter to Jonathan mentions an "'adorable barmaid from The Rose and Crown." Clara Oswin Oswald worked at The Rose and Crown in Doctor Who's The Snowmen which set in the Victorian Era and written by Steven Moffat.
When Sister Agatha refers to her "friend detective in London" it is difficult not to think of Sherlock Holmes. Not only did Mark Gatiss and Steven Moffat produce Sherlock (2010), but Dolly Wells also appears in Murder Rooms: Mysteries of the Real Sherlock Holmes (2000).
