Jim Varney himself sang the song "Gee I'm Glad It's Raining" in a single take. Reportedly, when he finished performing the song, there wasn't a single dry eye on set.
This is the very first "Ernest" movie.
It is the final appearance of Iron Eyes Cody, though he speaks an indigenous tribal language rather than American English in this film.
Lyle Alzado broke Jim Varney's nose by mistake during the fight scene. Jim said the crack you hear in the movie wasn't added later.
Several items in Ernest's cabin - alligator puppet, picture of his mother (also portrayed by Jim Varney), a helmet labeled "Fast Ernie" - were all used on commercials Jim Varney did in the early 1980s.
"[Ernest is getting his shots and is in pain] Ernest P. Worrell: I did it! I took the Lindbergh baby! I am Josef Mengele! Aaahhh!"
"Nurse St. Cloud: You will have great wealth if you let these men own the land. [Chief responds] Nurse St. Cloud: He says, who can own a tree? Who can own a rock? Only the Great Spirit. Mister Black, these grounds are the homes to our ancient Indian ceremonial grounds, my grandfather and I are the last of our tribe."
