TRIVIA AND POPULAR DIALOGUES

Trivia

This is the second time that Christa B. Allen has played the younger version of a character played by Jennifer Garner. The first was in 13 Going on 30 (2004).

Originally set up at Walt Disney Pictures with Ben Affleck attached to play the lead character, and Kevin Smith to direct. However, Harvey Weinstein, who produced all of Smith's films at Miramax, didn't like Smith going away to Disney, and offered him money to direct a prequel to Fletch (1985) if he could get Affleck to play the lead. 'Fletch Won' briefly went into production, but then Affleck decided to go with Disney anyway, and Smith's film was canceled. Production on 'Ghosts' was to begin in the fall of 2003, but budgetary concerns and the failure of Gigli (2003) caused the studio to cancel the film one month prior to shooting. Ironically, when the film got picked up by New Line Cinema years later, Affleck's then-wife Jennifer Garner appeared in it. The role Affleck was supposed to play was instead played by his Dazed and Confused (1993) co-star, Matthew McConaughey.

When Ben Affleck was attached to the project, offers went out to Warren Beatty, Robert De Niro, Bill Murray and Jack Nicholson for the part of Uncle Wayne.

In the street scene after Connor Mead visits his secretary's flat, an old antiquarian storefront bookshop is in the background, next to the stairs to the secretary's apartment. The name of the bookshop, in gold print across the glass window, is Fezziwig's Books. In 'A Christmas Carol', Mr Fezziwig was Ebenezer Scrooge's first boss, a cheery soul who is a direct contrast to the dour Scrooge.

When going back to his late teens, Connor winds up in Kripke's basement. Kripke's basement is where, in Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines (2003), John Connor said he first made out with Kate Brewster only a few days before the T-2 arrived, both Connor's name and the locale being homage to the Terminator series.

Popular Dialogues

"Connor Mead: Someone once told me that the power in all relationships lies with whoever cares less, and he was right. But power isn't happiness, and I think that maybe happiness comes from caring more about people rather than less..."

"Connor Mead: I am begging you: don't run away. You and Paul have something so rare, so powerful! Don't chicken out now. Sandra: "Don't chicken out"? He cheated. Connor Mead: Get over it. It was years ago! With some slutty friend of yours! A friend, incidentally, that you're not even mad at. And you know why? Because you don't actually care. You love Paul so much you forgave him the second you heard, and that's what scares you. Sandra: You have no idea how I feel. No idea! Connor Mead: Yes, I do. I've been in your shoes. You know what? It scared the hell out of me too. What if she hurt me? What if she left me? What if she died? It would have been the end of me. So I cut it short, before she ever could. And you know what? It was the biggest mistake I ever made. And you're making the same mistake right now, and I'll be goddamned if I'm going to sit by and watch. You've got to risk love, Sandra! I didn't and look at me! I'm a lonely ghost of a man. It doesn't mean that you're never going to get hurt, but the pain you feel will never compare to the regret that comes from walking away from love. And from someone who's felt a lot of both, trust me, pain beats regret every day of the week and twice on Sunday. Don't run away. Don't do it. Sandra: I can't believe I'm saying this but, uh, I think you might be right. Connor Mead: So. Do you want to get married? Sandra: I do. Connor Mead: You do? Sandra: Yes!"
