TRIVIA AND POPULAR DIALOGUES

Trivia

While Demi Moore and the rest of the main cast endured a mini-boot camp in Florida, Viggo Mortensen prepared for the role on his own for several months. He observed the actual training in Naval Base Coronado and talked to many active and retired Navy S.E.A.L.s. Some of the other cast members, with the exception of Moore, were angry that Mortensen didn't go through what the others had to go through. That's what Mortensen wanted.

In her memoir Inside Out, Demi Moore called this film her proudest professional achievement.

In real life, Navy S.E.A.L. training (BUD/S) is conducted in Coronado, California. After graduating BUD/S, trainees complete Airborne training, cold weather training in Kodiak, Alaska, and the S.E.A.L. SQTs before being deployed. It can take up to two years before a S.E.A.L. sees combat.

The Navy S.E.A.L.s opened up training to women in March 2016.

Ridley Scott's brother, Tony, supplied some leftover submarine footage from Crimson Tide (1995).

Popular Dialogues

"Master Chief John Urgayle: Pain is your friend, your ally, it will tell you when you are seriously injured, it will keep you awake and angry, and remind you to finish the job and get the hell home. But you know the best thing about pain? Lt. Jordan O'Neil: Don't know! Master Chief John Urgayle: It lets you know you're not dead yet!"

"Master Chief John Urgayle: [quoting "Self-Pity" by D.H. Lawrence] I never saw a wild thing sorry for itself. A bird will fall frozen dead from a bough without ever having felt sorry for itself."
