Godavari by Nikhil Mahajan contains all of this and more. The Deshmukh family, who reside on the banks of the Godavari River and get rent from the former commercial properties they own, is the subject of the movie, which is set in Nashik. In his later years, the elderly patriarch Naroshankar—beautifully portrayed by veteran Vikram Gokhale—is battling dementia. His grandson Nishikant, played by Jitendra Joshi, has partially taken over the family company in honour of the late actor Nishikant Kamat. Life carries on, but for Nishikant, who hates practically everything around him, each day is a struggle inside. He is a volcano that is about to erupt. Then, a shift occurs. An emotion is a godavari. The novel establishes a river and a city as major characters and explores the complexities of belief, human behaviour, and coping with death.According to the Martin Luther statement that the movie opens with, every individual must carry out two independent tasks: he must carry out his own believing and his own dying. It's understandable why the filmmakers held off on releasing this movie in theatres; it's an audio-visual treat appropriate for a large screen. And don't forget, even Godavari's silences are quite expressive.
