The movie initially had two endings, each to mollify the fans of Mohanlal and Mammootty, superstars in their own right. Thus, while in one ending Mohanlal gets the girl (Juhi Chawla), she chooses Mammootty in the other. In the original censored version, Mohanlal marries Juhi Chawla.
The film was the highest-grossing Malayalam film of the year 1998.
Mohanlal's ending was the original version of the film, the alternate ending with Mammootty was uncensored and was soon removed from theaters after court order and notice from the Central Board of Film Certification. All theaters screened the original ending after that.
