During the scene when the mayor loses his place in line, the couple sitting on the bench are dressed as a devil and an old lady with hair rollers. This is a callback to the original Garry Marshall and Penny Marshall roles as the unsuspecting married couple who host the sisters for an evening.
Bette Midler is largely responsible for Hocus Pocus 2 becoming a reality. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Bette stated that when she started to realize how popular the original film had become, she "was surprised" and "started making calls". In the original film, Mary's mouth is crooked to the right. This time, it's to the left. Kathy Najimy has disclosed that this is because it's hard for her to do it on the original side now. The movie explains the change away by having Winifred slap Mary, making her mouth move to the other side.
The spiders that attack the Salem villagers in the opening are Golden silk orb-weavers, as evidenced by their tan bodies with white spots and stripes, as well as their very long black and yellow legs. Although frighteningly large to some (they can reach a length of up to 5.1 cm, or 2 in), these spiders are completely harmless to humans. They are not venomous, and their bites cannot even pierce human skin.
