Michael Urie (Peter), Philemon Chambers (Nick) and Luke Macfarlane are all openly gay actors. Prior to the shoot, Urie was insistent to the filmmakers that all three lead characters be played by gay actors to make their chemistry more realistic.
Filmed in Pointe Claire, Quebec in the same neighbourhood as the Home Alone reboot.
Philemon Chambers (Nick) is the first Black actor to star in a major motion LGBTQ Romantic Comedy.
When Peter is reviewing photos from a previous shoot he exclaims that he hates the sender "soooo much it flames on the side of his face." This is a direct quote from the 1985 movie Clue where Madeline Khan's character, Mrs. White says it.
In real life, Dan Finnerty (Kevin the snowplow guy/notary/singer) married Kathy Najimy (Christmas Carole), in August 1998, and the wedding was officiated by Gloria Steinem.
"Harold: You know, it's not every day that you meet a gay handyman. How did you learn how to do all this stuff? Nick: [grunts, sighs] On YouTube and HGTV. Harold: Oh. What is that? A Homosexual Gay network? Nick: [chuckles] Basically. Harold: Oh. I'll check it out. HGTV. It's not porn, is it? Nick: Kind of."
"Daniella: It's so obvious. How come only Grandpa sees what we see? All you gotta do is look at their faces. It's pure love. Sofia: I know, but why don't even they see it, is the question. Daniella: Love is blind. Sofia: No. No, that's when you fall in love with someone who's ugly."
