    Volunteer search and rescue Pam Bales embarks on a walk to the summit of Mount Washington one tragic morning. She notices footsteps in the snow made by someone wearing only trainers as a violent storm suddenly arrives. She encounters a strange-behaving, incoherent guy whom she names "John," and the two set out on a perilous journey down the mountain to safety, encountering numerous difficulties and nearly drowning once. Pam had different "flashbacks" of her two young kids, who perished in a gas leak disaster, throughout this period. The two almost perish from exposure but manage to reach safety just to have "John" drive off abruptly without even saying "thank you." Pam tries to learn his true identity, and at the end they have an emotional encounter in a coffee shop when she shares that her two young daughters died from a gas leak and he shares that a loved one had perished from exposure to freezing temperatures on a mountain the year before.
