In India, all meals start and end with meetha (sweet dishes). When writer Rohit Malhotra presented the script to Samar Khan, Khan said, "Yaar, kuch meetha ho jaye!" (Mate, let's have something sweet!) The phrase stuck and became the film's title.
The film is set in an Indian airport and was shot in a Malaysian airport. The Malaysian authorities gave permission to shoot the film as it would promote tourism in their country. Once the appropriate airport was found, art director Sabu Cyril decked it up to resemble an Indian airport.
Most of the cast were uncertain that Samar Khan, a journalist, would be able to make he film, but once they heard the script (and the special appearance by Shahrukh Khan that would occur in the film) they became more enthusiastic.
Fans were in for a treat. On April 13, 2005, Arshad Warsi and Mahima were at Fame Malad (Multiplex in Mumbai) selling tickets.
The film was marketed using Shah Rukh Khan in the film's promotional posters. However, Khan had a cameo in the film.
