The last "Screwy Squirrel" cartoon.
Lenny is a parody of Lenny from John Steinbeck's classic novel 'Of Mice and Men'.
The original working title was "Lonesome Lennie".
Upon receiving a gift-wrapped present, Lenny says, "I sure hope it isn't more of that darned old horsemeat." This is one of many references to wartime rationing found in MGM cartoons of this vintage.
The somewhat dated sight gags (wolf, old bag, in the doghouse) were flawlessly executed in Avery's signature style and are still funny today.
"Lenny: [Last line] You know I had a little friend once but he don't move no more. [Holds up a dead Screwy Squirrel]"
"Lenny: [reaches into a hole and grabs Screwy from across the woods] Now I got ya my little friend, I'm gonna pet ya, hold ya, and pet ya, and pet ya, and pet ya! [hugs him so hard he breaks several of his bones]"
